For roughly 17 years, The Auditor wandered the industrial landscape surrounding Butte’s Berkeley Pit. Miners gave the elusive dog his name because he appeared without warning, vanished for weeks, then returned as if checking the books.
They built him a shelter and left food. He accepted the help, but never gave up his freedom.
